Obesity and Related Heart Problems
This fact has been discovered long ago that overweight individuals have a risk of developing heart diseases, but mostly are believe that a heart failure resulted from high blood pressure and diabetes is associated with obesity. A study published in New England Journal of Medicine showed that obesity itself can lead to heart failure.
Another study shows that a excess of body weight even in people who does not fall in the category of obesity, substantially have a high risk of heart failure. It means if you are healthy, but obesity can place you at the risk of developing heart diseases. Thus both the doctors and patients should encourage weight loss.
Obesity can cause left ventricular hypertrophy- thickening of walls of left ventricle of the heart. It leads to heart failure. Additionally obesity is also related to the metabolic syndrome X, which causes serious lipid disfunctionalities. It is quite possible that LVH and metabolic syndrome have grounds of heart failure and it is observed frequently in the over weight patients.
There are treatments which includes ameliorating and syndrome X that helps to prevent the fatal heart diseases. Therefore all those who are over weight should double their efforts to lose some. There are some risk factors like hypertension, lipid abnormalities, metabolic syndrome X and aggressive behavior.
There are numerous problems associated with obesity. It is a common health problem and person weighing 40% overweight has twice the rate of dying as compared to normal weight person. The associated medical conditions related to obesity are as follows:
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Stroke
• Cancer
• Gallstones and gallbladders
• Osteoarthritis
• Gout
• Breathing problems and sleep apnea
The more is the weight; it is more likely for a person to develop heart problems. Chronic diseases are more likely to develop as compared to the normal weight persons. An obese person has about 20% more weight than the healthy person of the same height. Those having obesity develop diseases when they have a family history, pre existent medical problems and weight concentrated at the stomach area.
